Flora London Marathon 2007

Race Update 23 April 2007

Congratulations to all who completed the London Marathon yesterday.

As predicted the Sunday morning started off bright and sunny, even at 7am as many of the team made their way into London by minibus. As far as I am aware everyone started at the red start and the Wombles were quick to get some media attention.

The race started at 9.45 and it appears that the first 10 miles were the hottest, with blazing sun. Our supporters at the 12 mile mark managed to spot almost all of you in and amongst the 35,000 runners who were competing. Somehow the Wombles managed to keep cool and maintain a steady pace to finish well inside the main pack.

I have heard about interviews on the BBC and pictures in newspapers, so if you have any televised footage of the race, pictures, stories or video diaries, please send them into me and I will add them to these pages.

The aim of this event is to fundraise for the work of Jesuit Missions overseas and Jesuit Refugee Service in the UK . At the bottom of the page are a number of links to sponsor runners using the Just Giving Secure Service, helping us to raise at least £40,000.

Thank to all the runners who trained regularly and were busy fundraising in the run up to the race. Thank you too to everyone who supported us on the day including family, friends, Jesuit Missions and Jesuit Refugee Service staff, the Mount Street Jesuit Centre for hosting the post-marathon reception, Collette for the sports massages, Donhead for the use of their minibuses, our drivers and carers on the day.

If you were inspired by what you have seen this year, why not consider running for Jesuit Missions next year? Send an e-mail to me and I will register you to receive an application form in July.
